The "others", also known as a plethora of prominent, dominant, white males began controlling black bodies during slavery. During the 1800's, Sarah Baartman who was known as "the Hottentot Venus", was taken from her home and on tour to exhibit her "big butt". The white man was in control of the black body as if "it" were an object. . The black body was used as a "tool" and sold for free labor which is why the grip, hold, and control over black bodies is still so prevalent today. Now that this type of slavery is no longer relevant in today's society, the others had to crop up a way to maintain that supremacy over black bodies, in which they did through technology and media. In today's society everyone has an cellphone, laptop, television, some type of technology or some type of social network. Technology and media has the ability to influence society as a whole with images through these devices. How powerful is that? The "others" are the masterminds behind these images through mainstream media. The images they use create a desire and fantasy within black bodies which creates a false perception of reality into the inner self. The inner self then uses material objects and other depictions received from these images to define their individual worth in society. Here the black body becomes a "puppeteer" to the others. Black bodies begin to go out and buy things they can't afford, drastically change their bodies to look like this "image" they see on social media/throughout the media, and etc. Once again the "others" find another form of slavery and get paid from all of it.
